I am sad to hear of the passing of Professor Rice. Though I never met the man personally, I feel I know him through is vast influence on the field of allelopathy. The discipline will feel his impact for many years to come.

Elroy L. Rice died August 9, 2000 at the age of 83. His dedication and enthusiasm as an educator and his inherent curiosity and drive in understanding biological processes in natural and managed ecosystems will be sorely missed.

I never had a chance to meet Prof. Rice personally. But his fantastic work he did for allelopathy, and his books he wrote on allelopathy had tremendous effect on my activity and some of my research fellows. His book, especially one published in 1984 for a long time was for us like a bible showing principls of allelopathy. Thank you Professor Rice for all you have done.

The participation of Dr. Elroy L. Rice in the development of allelopathy science has been fundamental for the nowadays state-of-the-art of this science. Dr. Elroy L. Rice was one of the best professor and scientist I ever know. His unusual great intellectual capacity, and his creative scientific discernment, allowed him to reach that privileged academic status and place that only a few persons can earn. Besides, his optimism and his love for science and the search of truth were an extraordinary example for all his numerous students and collaborators, and the guide for our own ways inside science and life. My condolences to his family.
